How do you get boring work to go by faster?

at my job (Library shelfer) there really isn't a lot to do, it's not like they assign you certain things you just pick up whatever there is to find, and when there is nothing you're supposed to make sure everything's in the right order by looking at every single book on the shelf. it's only 5 hours but it goes by so slowly for me. it's not a bad job so I don't want to quit, it's just sooo boring that i want to cry, help? How do you get boring work to go by faster?
Do the work as quickly as you can, then approach the head librarian and ask what ELSE you can do. If that doesn't pan out, then when you get back in the stacks, pull out some material and read it.How do you get boring work to go by faster?

Write short stories or poetry on your free times (don't let noone see it, hide it and it's a secret), that's what I can say, you need the job, you got a good job, making a salary, a good minimum wage, and worry and look foward to fun after the job, be a clockwatcher keep watching the clock
Find more work to do

Talk to and help people who are looking for books.. if you're shelving them, surely you know where they are?

Will they let you listen to music if you have earbuds?
