so apparentely god doesnt want you to do lots of things on the sabbath, and so jews invent automated machines that allow them to carry on as normal, with the machine doing the 'work'

You are missing the point, as expected. The fact that something *is* done only accentuates what is *not* done. And on Shabbat, things are *not* the same as on other days of the week. A simple example for your simple mind: on Shabbat, elevators are programmed to stop at every floor, thus avoiding the necessity for pushing a button and, thereby, violating the commandments. Every time one steps into such an elevator one is reminded that this kind of work is *not* being done on Shabbat, and that Shabbat is therefore *different* from the other days.
Jews don't.



You are taking a very narrow view.



You may as well ask why Vegetarians are doing the same by eating "tofu burgers."



If an "action" is prohibited, then trying to do something in a way that avoids the prohibited action is not "outsmarting" anyone or anything. It is avoiding a prohibited action.



And a vegetarian who eats tofu burgers or seitan steak or grillers is just doing the same.

Yes, many of us do think G-d would be impressed. We've managed to use the ingenuity that he gave us to abide by the commandments and still do things we couldn't had we not used our brains.



Very few of us believe that we were not meant to modify our behavior at all since the ancient era.
Some line about the word of "God" being the final word but if a Rabbi debates God and he wins "God" conceeds and the Rabbi is seen as the final authority.
