Biblically speaking: What is a good, modern day job description for a Concubine?

A good-looking contact of mine, who shall remain *nameless*, offered a position in his household as Concubine. I asked what this job change would entail, and he said sex 10-15x weekly. With no other duties, and no pay.

As I pondered this career change, he CHICKENED OUT and CHANGED HIS MIND. Which led me to this this might not be a bad thing to do, as concubinage was an accepted practice in the Bible:

Anyway, my question is, if we're taking the bible literally, what would be a good modern day job description for this calling?

A roof, three squares and available for sex when the money wants it.

Why do I think that this is so NOT you.

Maybe we should try this system out for a weekend to see if you like it?

However, no chicken here........

A Biblical concubine is a secondary wife.

It is not a good career choice as you are limited to the one husband and on the other hand do not have the full rights of a full wife.

He is obligated to provide for you, but your children do not get a full inheritance and you may not be entitled to a divorce settlement.

Better to be a second full wife in a polygamous relationship.Biblically speaking: What is a good, modern day job description for a Concubine?
Biblicly speaking a concubine is a woman with which a man has a serious long term relationship which includes all of the duties and privileges of a wife with out a marriage contract. The Bible does not condemn this Modern terms;a live in girl friend. Many will scream and deny this, but show me the scriptures which say it is wrong[with out twisting them.]They are not in the Bible
Hey Kelly

Don't get what the Bible talks about and what it condones mixed up,the Bible condemns that sort of thing when Solomon did it

She would be a sort of secondary wife

EDIT:I just read BibleChoosers answer and he is wrong in the Bible you are to have only one wife so don't believe himBiblically speaking: What is a good, modern day job description for a Concubine?
"Chaplain"? "I need a VERY private ministering-to"

"Private secretary"? I believe Nelson Rockefeller died in his.

"Consultant"? Heh heh "I need advice darling --- should I lick you like a lollipop?"

Hmmmm... "Grief Counselor"? "Oh, console me!"

I've got it!

BODYGUARD. We take a cue from Qaddafi and we give you a Gilbert %26amp; Sullivan-style "military uniform" (something flashy with a low neckline -- and tax deductible as a work uniform!) and we tell everyone the cartels are after me. THAT'LL explain why you can't leave my side.

1. Harem
2. Pimp's Nest

The Concubine was practiced mostly by the Kings and higher ups in Old Testament only, and was there for historical documentation. (Secondary wives is a good way of looking at it) As you see later on in the Old Testament how God wanted a union to be a man and woman

The New Testament and good news of Jesus Christ obviates not only Mosaic Law but some of it's practices. Another one would be 'an eye for an eye.'

unpaid hooker?
A sex slave.
I'm sure, if this person is well-informed, he did not describe a concubine this way. I am sure he described it more like being a member of the family - another member who also has sex with the man. Isn't that basically a secondary wife?

In premodern times, frequently a man had as many concubines as he could afford. They were treated as secondary wives, and the children the man fathered had standing as family members.

So you would basically have the responsibilities of any wife, only they would be more shared between 2 or more women - including sex.

It is pretty much what the Mormon sects do, but since they have strict religious dogma they have to get married or they will live in sin, thereby breaking the law. If they just did the same thing and legally married one or none then no one would bother them. If a strong commitment is made, you do legal agreements OTHER than a marriage certificate.

It might not be that bad. In interviews those women seem really happy with the situation. But these women have been culturally trained to see other women as something other than rivals.

Also, I am sure, whoever he is, he did not chicken out. I am sure he was just being a gentleman and giving you an out after much hedging.

That is my guess, anyway.
"Secondary wife" would be the best description of an actual concubine. For what you describe, the term "booty call" is probably most appropriate.

Sex was hardly the only duty expected of a concubine in Biblical and other times. Generally (not always), a concubine was a slave that was additionally used for sex - not a slave that was only used for sex. This is true of many non-Biblical cultures as well.

In the Bible, a concubine was (in a secondary sense) a member of the household - not an employee. As such, all necessaries would be supplied to her by the master of the household, including room, board and clothing. A concubine of the master of a household had more authority in the household as a woman than any other woman in the household except for a true wife of the master, and in the Bible a concubine's children often were treated as heirs of her master. Again: this is also true of many other cultures.

In the Bible, it is considered a serious sin for a concubine to have sex with anyone other than her master - very nearly as serious as adultery. Mosaic Law specifically forbids the "sharing" of concubines with others - even with one's own son.

In many cultures, concubines had privileges and authority that we in our monogamous society would *only* associate with a wife - and duties as well. It was not an occupation. It did not earn income for the concubine (though in Biblical times it could and often did earn the concubine both improved station and a much more luxurious lifestyle). Even if it was primarily about sex from the master's point of view, it was normally by *no* means limited to sex.

Conclusion: the job you were considering was fraudulently advertised as "concubine". No such position was actually available.
