I'm doing a project in art and have spent my budget on glass from picture frames. It's too thick to use. I have broken it up and am wondering how to thin it out? and make it sharper. I have half my project done and we have to make things into smaller objects from the big ones we've bought.
Thanks.How to sharpen glass???????
Glass can be ground thinner, with care and with cooling, because glass breaks if locally heated too much, whether from friction or flame. You can do it by hand with care for the sharp edges by gluing down emery cloth (black "sand paper") to a flat surface, including glass.
Glass can only be pulled thinner by heating to soft molten and pulling - it cools almost instantly as it thins. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to heat without a kiln that will go to 1500F or so. Since you are working with broken pieces, if you can get some high temp insulation - ceramic fiber board - you might be able to heat with a torch on the flat surface very gently and overall at first and stretch with tweezers or pliers.
