Why do people feel there is no such thing as mental illness?

Seriously. It has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. The stigma needs to end. New technology like spect scans and brain imaging provide even more proof for those of you who doubt...Why do people feel there is no such thing as mental illness?
i believe

it's because

the concept of mental illness

impedes the

application of Blame,

and takes some of the

fun

out of Judging.
um people do believe mental illness exists

but the mental illness of any individual is nothing compared to the insanity of our society. you don't even know how to think right. you and me (although probably to a lesser degree) have been programmed either intentionally or unintentionally to think things. "Mental Illness" is one of those utterly moronic bandages that society is trying to use to cover up a gaping wound of stupidity and shame and greed and etc. Society is very sick but you'll never even get a glimpse of that until you get some good outside perspectives on it.

Sure there can be a thing such as mental illness but we have already gone so sickeningly far down that slippery slope that your most realistic bet is to NOT believe that someone has it when they say they do or they have been diagnosed with it.Why do people feel there is no such thing as mental illness?
In clinical psychiatry, persistent distress and disability indicate an internal disorder requiring treatment; but in another context, that same distress and disability can be seen as an indicator of emotional struggle and the need to address social and structural problems. It is still easier and cheaper to prescribe medication than to treat the underlying causes of the persons distress. In some countries that I have visited those that would have been institutionalized for mental illness take part in the daily routine of life and are looked after by their families. They are different, not "Ill". There is still the problem of violence and sociopaths, How can these be dealt with when you exclude the definition of mental illness?
It can be explained this way. Things we call mental illnesses are failures in brain functions. Since the brain is organ, the disease is physical.

That - if twisted enough of course - means that there are no mental things whatsoever but only physical things.

However i believe, that we should keep out old terminology in certain matters. Concentrating in curing the illnesses is way more important, that arguing of ways to name them. Why do people feel there is no such thing as mental illness?
I can think of 3 reasons:

1. Ignorance.

2. Because the signs of mental illness often are shown by behavior, people think it can be easily controlled. Just don't touch the doorknob 15 times; don't commit suicide. I guess that might come under a lack of compassion or being unwilling to accept something of which you have no personal experience.

3. There's no objective way to diagnose some mental illnesses.
I have heard of people who are skeptical of clinical Depression (and even I am skeptical of the EXTENT to which it is diagnosed) but i have never heard of people who disbelieve in mental illness of every kind.
Lol, people who believe this may in fact have a "mental illness" of their own.
Perhaps some people believe that, but I don't believe it is a fair generalization.
People are retarded
Why don't you seek help then?
