As in things you won't listen to because of lyrical content, I'm curious.Christians, where do you draw the line when it comes to music?
Lets see, I won't listen to anything that encourages cheating on a spouse like some country songs of the 80's and even some today do. I won't listen to rap music or hip hop music at all even if it is song by a christian group. And finally I won't listen to anything that attacks christian beliefs and principles.
The Bible offers no guidelines concerning the tempo, beat, volume, cadence of music. There is only one statement that allows Christians to judge music. Psalm 150 says, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." If music praises the Lord or if the lyrics praise the Lord or if the lyrics are neutral, the Bible has no problem with the music. Now when the music encourages violence, hatred, rape or other sins, the Bible condemns such music.Christians, where do you draw the line when it comes to music?
i switched to Christian radio in the late 1980s and quit listening to secular music altogether. however, i have children, and as they grew up and started listening to secular music, i listened as well just to see what they were listening to. talk about filth. yeah, i'll stick with Christian music. i hate that secular crap. even when they are listening to oldies (that are not filthy in content) i still prefer Christian music, because it edifies me and brings glory to my Lord.
Christians, where do you draw the line when it comes to music?
Personally, I just listen to Christian music. Sometimes on occasion I will listen to a secular song that I know will have a Christian message or theme. But as a general rule, I do not listen to secular music, though.
However, I can imagine that this can be a challenge for anyone who loves secular music, though. Personally, this was not a challenge for me. In fact, there would be long periods of time where I did not even listen to music. It was not because I didn't like music. It was just because I only enjoyed it during certain times when I drove around in my car.
My big thing was movies and television shows. However, after I re-dedicated myself to the Lord (or renewed my faith): I started to see that about 90% of the things of this world or of man's ideas run contrary to God.
For example: I started to learn the seriousness about how God does not approve of the practice of magic within the Scriptures. This was not something the Lord took lightly. Yet many Christians watch Harry Potter like it is no big deal. In fact, some Christians think these movies are acceptable because they have a nice Christian theme or message to them. But what they really are doing is compromising their morals. I mean you don't see a lot of Christians supporting porn, do you? It is no different with Harry Potter. A movie, song, or book with a message of a sinful action that runs contrary to the Bible is still a wrong action. I mean think about it. Do you really want to keep dumping bad things into your head from music, movies, and the media? If you eat junk food all the time, what do you think is going to happen? It is no different with matters of a spiritual nature.
Well, God wants us to fill our mind with only good things or the things of God. He wants us to take up our cross and to daily deny ourselves the ways of this world. This does not mean we cannot enjoy ourselves. This just means that we have to put on our Biblical glasses in every action that we take.
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." ~ (Philippians 4:13)
"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." ~ (Matthew 6:24)
"...and what communion hath light with darkness?" ~ (2 Corinthians 6:14)
...Christians, where do you draw the line when it comes to music?
I listen to mostly Christian music as I should.
If i happen to listen to anything else, it's never anything I would turn off if a 9 year old walked into the room.
If it sucks, I turn it off.
Opera and Pink Floyd must be played at high volume.
Chamber music is background noise, low volume.
Rush Limbaugh and Lars Larson--medium volume.
Elvis is the devil...the way he moves his legs. I'm not letting myself or my kids listen to that shameful music. (if you can even call it music)
it if sounds good,i might save it.if not i might put it in the trash.
as a Christian I have to say that it is YUNG MONEY ALL DAY EVERYDAY YMCMB BIEEETCH! OVOXO NIEEEGUH
