How do I know that the BIOS update for ASUS 1005HAB is done?

I have been having issues with my internet on my ASUS Eee PC 1005HAP (Window XP). I called Asus and they told me to update the WLAN drivers. That did not work. Then they told me to perform a system recovery. That didn't work. Then finally they told me to perform a BIOS update. They said this is a very risky thing to do, but I had to do it anyway because I have no more warranty and it's just not worth taking it to Best Buy or sending it to Asus. I am in the process of performing this update and the computer has been stuck at 'reading file "1005HA.ROM"' for at least 3 hours. I called Asus, and they told me that it shouldn't take that long but if I stop the process it could ruin my unit. I don't know what to do. Will the computer let me know when it's done? Is this even going to fix my WIFI? Should I just give up and get a new computer? I can't believe I'm going from my WIFI not working to my whole unit being ruined. So frustrating...How do I know that the BIOS update for ASUS 1005HAB is done?
just take permisson from them agianHow do I know that the BIOS update for ASUS 1005HAB is done?
BIOS updates are usually a method of last resort for a problem since they are very risky. It should definitely not take three hours. I would really recommend talking to support again seeing what they would suggest since powering down or canceling the update may spell for disaster.

I can not stress it enough. Talk to ASUS support before taking any action. Their opinion on something as sensitive as a BIOS update should be taken into consideration the most.

I wish you best of luck and that your computer was not destroyed. How do I know that the BIOS update for ASUS 1005HAB is done?
wow thats rough. i wish you would have posted here about your wifi problem there are some decent techs that dont mind sharing there knowledge or doing a little research. follow this link and see if any of this can help you. to answer your question when you flash a bios it is an automated process and you would know when it was done. they were right when they said it was dangerous you could brick (where it is as usfule as a brick) your bios chip.

i think you can email me if you have anymore questions.
I have very bad news for you.

A BIOS flash usually only takes a few minutes at the longest. If it's been hours then that means something froze or glitched along the way, which means your BIOS is almost definitely corrupted, which means your computer is now a very fancy brick. You can try to reboot the machine and pray that by some small chance your BIOS isn't corrupted and you can still boot, but don't hold your breath.

The technician at Asus is an idiot and should have never recommended a BIOS update for this. If by some miracle your machine isn't destroyed, just go out and buy a USB wifi adapter and call it a day.

I'd start shopping for a new computer.
