I don't know what G.C.S.E options to do!!! help...?

Hi, i'm in yr 9 and basically i have no idea what i want to become but i can tell you that i like physics and art. The thing is that i'm an all round person. So this option making is hard. I am o.k at everything so yeah...

i'm already taking all the basics (Eng (2), Mat, Sci (3) and am also doing french.

which leaves four more options:

Geography

R.E

Latin

Art

Drama

Creative Imedia

D.T RSM (resistant materials)

other things, i really really do not like my latin teacher this year and there is a possibility that i might get him next year which will be bad... I want to take the English Baccalaureate but i prefer R.E over geog.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

also

please don't tell me do what my heart tells me to and do what you like - all that yakkum.

I like all of the above but i can only do four.

Could you just tell me about personal experiences and such and which did you find better.

thx :)|||Well your doing triple science, so id pick a few easier subjects, art, drama?

I took geography, it was quite fun, a lot of work, but it was fun, and my friends have said creative media is good|||I think she should do the core ones, like the subjects that you wouldnt be able to do anywhere alse. Like resistant materials, if you REALLY wanted to do that you could go to like college to do it after or like a saturday class thingy, same with creative meadia. I think you should do art and RE. That way you have two completlley different subjects that you like and youre less likely to get bored of because the other one is so different :)|||From personal experience, I can tell you that your choices in GCSEs are extremely unlikely to affect your career path in any way. People want to see you are able to take on and succeed in a subject, regardless of what subject it is. Do what you enjoy because you are far more likely to succeed in it. Just pick them based on what you know and enjoy, and dont worry about the rest of it.|||I have just started my GCSE's and also like most subjects, my school is slightly different as i took;

English, Maths, all 3 sciences , Philosophy/Ethics, P.E

French

Systems and Control

History

ICT

But I wouldn't let it put you off the subject because of a teacher, its about the qualification you get at the end the teacher doesn't matter, you get an advisor (or should do) when choosing options and should get information, which will advise you on the options to take depending on the career path, you don't need an exact career idea just a basic idea. So think hard about it, don't think about teachers or being with friends, just think about which ones will suit your abilities and goals, and which ones are more useful and looked for in employment.|||I am in year 10. When I was in year 9, I was very much like you. Open minded about all of my subjects because I had decent grades in each. I also had no clue what path I wanted to take in the 'job' department so I ended up choosing subjects that I enjoyed and subjects that I thought would give me a 'broad range' of opportunities. BIG MISTAKE! It is probably the worst thing anyone could ever do when choosing GCSE options "choosing what you think you'll need in the future" because first things first, GCSE grades are only looked at by sixth forms. Universities don't even look at the grades and besides, sixth forms don't even look at the subjects you chose. As long as you get good grades and are motivated to do well in a subject - take it!

I took RE - I was on a 6A in year 9 in RE and predicted B at GCSE! Probably my favourite option and I'm glad that that it was compulsory at my school. It's a lesson where you can just babble on with yourself in the exam and STILL get marks for it. Since I love debating and looking at view points of two different sides of an argument, RE is a good subject because it is always suggesting reasons against and reasons for doing certain things. It's interesting too! I give this subject 5/5 in my opinion! Don't take it based on my option though. Not everyone is the same.

Then there's Geography... I chose that too! Biggest mistake I have possibly ever done. I wish I'd have taken History instead. I took geography because I want to travel the world when I'm older and see landmarks, etc. Little did I know that geography doesn't cover any of those things. I got told the exams were 'common sense' and the lessons just involved colouring in. Whoever gave me that advice did a crap job at giving advice! The 'Higher paper' exam A-C consists of questions that are worded in a very difficult way to understand. Even if you know all the topics and are brilliant at geography, you'll come to the exam and think "What is this question asking me to do?" not only does the question not really make it clear what you have to do but you also have to take about 10 minutes actually putting the question into a readable way so that you understand what it means.

I rate this lesson 1/5. If you like geography take it but ask what course your school is following first. My school is following the AQA course. Don't know if it's because my teacher is 60 and he likes telling us his life stories or the fact that I hate it that I am only predicted a C.

Latin = I didn't take it. My school doesn't offer it so I can't really give much info on that. I don't think Latin is used very much anymore though. It's better to do either Spanish or French. I took Spanish and It's okay.

Art = I didn't take it. I'm good at drawing my my art teaching really wanted me to take it and I was going to until I found out that at the end of year 11, Art consists of a 7 hour long exam where you have to make a project (a drawing, painting, etc) and it counts for a lot of your final grade. Like 50%

I suck at concentrating and for 7 hours? No thank you - Art was straight off my list. My friends who took it enjoy it but have to stay back after class to finish work and say it's really hard to keep up with the deadline dates. It takes up a lot of time that could be spent revising for more important subjects like Maths, English, Etc.

Drama = Not an option at my school.

Creative Media = Never heard of it before.

D.T I guess this is product design right? I took Graphics. The 2 year long course consists of making a product, designing it in detail, making prototypes and then eventually making it. I think it's good to take something a little more fun to get away from the more educational lessons now and again and because I didn't take Art, I chose this instead. My school has us either making a board game, CD + T-shirt, Cabinet with cards in (wedding invitations, etc). I think this lesson is cool. My teacher is relaxed and the room is a big open space so it is calm to talk to friends for the lesson. The designing is good and I'm quite glad a took this! I don't think I would rather have picked anything else anyway. 4/5 I'd give it!

I took PE and ICT too. My ICT course is just coursework so no exams. It's super, super easy! You can get an A without even trying but it takes a lot of effort. It gives you step-by-step instructions on how to do things and you just need to include it all to get an A. Even if you don't get an A, you can just alter the coursework to make it an A! Easy stuff! I'd rather watch paint dry... but very easy. 3/5.

If I could go back and change my options, I would probably choose History instead of Geography. If your good at English, History is a good option. The exams just consist of remembering key events and dates and then putting them into an essay (easy!). I was on 6A in history in year 9 and a 5C in geography. Why oh why didn't I take History?

Hope I helped! Good luck choosing!|||Art- a lot of people take art as the 'doss' subject so be prepared for the people who might be in the lesson , mostly the work is based around looking at different artists, studying their work and producing your own similar pieces.

Drama- Drama isn't like year 9 drama- in GCSE it's less improvising and general acting, and more writing scripts, studying plays and designing costumes. You don't have to be good at acting- you can get your GCSE for making the props, designing the costumes or directing a piece.

D.T- I didn't take this but the people who took it say it's quite boring as they're lots of planning. However you have the freedom to choose what you want to make, but you need to be skilled at it and have a good interest and want to do it in the future.

R.E- You do the basic religion stuff, then you do things like Citizenship in the course, where you do things like discuss controversial topics e.g abortion.

Geography- Apparently it's easy if you listen well and do the work. A lot of people take it as a doss, or because there's some kind of trip involved if you take it.

Hope this hepls, I don't know anything about the other subjects!
